Naomi Ota

Naomi Ota is a fibre installation artist with experience lecturing in Visual Art at School of Creative Arts, the University of Melbourne. She has an MA by research (sculpture) from RMIT Melbourne, and an MA (Textile) from Kyoto City University of Arts, Japan. Her work is a complex cross-over between textile and contemporary art.

Her understanding of culture as a native Japanese and her international experience as a professional artist have both contributed a unique cultural context to the discipline. Ota's work has been extensively exhibited in various national and international exhibitions. Her on-going theme is 'Seeking a primary image'.

For her, it is like going deeply down into one's original scenery regardless of superficial cultural background. It is extraordinarily ambiguous and certain at the same time. It may not belong to any particular culture by its appearance, but is definitely a core element of one's culture.
