Janet Laurence

Janet Laurence is a mixed media, installation artist whose work has been included in major survey exhibitions and collections, nationally and internationally. She exhibits regularly in Sydney, Melbourne and Japan. Her work explores a relationship to the natural world from an architectural context. It extends from the gallery space into the urban fabric, and has involved collaborations with architects and landscape architects. The public commissions and collaborations include:

  • The "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier", with Tonkin Zulaikha Architects in the Australian War Memorial, Canberra
  • The "The Edge of the Trees" at the Museum of Sydney, awarded the Lloyd Rees Award for Urban design from the RAIA
  • "49 veils", windows for the Central Synagogue in Bondi - awarded the 1999 NAWIC award for Art in the Built Environment
  • 'Veil of Trees', Sydney Sculpture Walk Domain
  • 'In the Shadow', for the Olympic Site at Homebush Bay
  • 'Stilled Lives', Museum of Victoria - Galleria Showcases
  • Awarded commission for The Australian War Memorial, in collaboration with Tonkin Zulaihka Greer Architects to be built in Hyde Park, London
  • Elixir House for Echigo Tsumari Triennale 2003 Permanent installation
